Items

Items are objects in inventories and hands (players and some mobs) or in item frames, made from various materials. This article does not cover block items, which will be discussed in Blocks.

Some items create blocks, fluids or entities when placed, others are used to perform an action on blocks in the world.

Items used to perform an action

When a player activates an item of this type (marking it in the action bar == "held it in hand"), they can be used the perform an action on blocks or on entities, e.g. attack a hostile mob. Some items of this type can be placed in armor or off hand slots.
